Your Qurbani Can Change a Family’s Eid

For many families around the world, Eid Qurbani is the only time of year they will eat fresh meat. Not a luxury, a lifeline.

This Eid al-Adha 2026, expected on May 27, 2026:  Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center is making it possible for you to fulfill your Qurbani for Eid al-Adha while ensuring your sacrifice reaches the families who need it most. Whether locally in our community or for displaced families abroad, your donation transforms this act of worship into a direct act of mercy.

What Is Qurbani and Why Does It Matter?

Eid Qurban, also known as Udhiyah, is the ritual animal sacrifice performed on the 10th, 11th, or 12th of Dhul Hijjah, following Eid prayers. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS) out of complete devotion to Allah (SWT).

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Whoever can afford it but does not offer a sacrifice, let him not come near our prayer place.”

Qurbani for Eid al-Adha is:

  • Obligatory (Wajib) in the Hanafi school for every sane, adult Muslim who possesses wealth above the Nisab threshold
  • Highly recommended (Sunnah Mu’akkadah) according to the majority of other scholars
  • A communal act of generosity, the meat is divided equally among family, neighbors, and those in need

The Day of Arafah: When to Give and Why It Matters

The Day of Arafah (May 26, 2026) is the most spiritually charged moment in the Islamic year. As the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, it is the day Allah perfected the religion of Islam, and the day He frees the most people from the Hellfire.

It is on Arafah and the days that follow that Qurbani must be fulfilled. The sacrifice is valid from after Eid prayer on the 10th until sunset on the 12th of Dhul Hijjah.

Day of Arafah dua is also especially powerful. If you are not performing Hajj, spend this day in prayer, remembrance, and giving.

“Fasting the Day of Arafah expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year.”– Sahih Muslim
