Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center was founded in 1983 CE (1403 AH) to serve the needs of the Muslim community and its interfaith neighbors. Initially, a house on the premises served as the masjid for eight years. Situated along Route 7 in Falls Church, VA, the center’s location was chosen for its accessibility to the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area. Serving approximately 40,000 Muslims, the current facility’s construction began in 1986 and opened on March 2, 1991 (Sha`ban 15, 1411). Registered as a non-profit in Virginia, with federal tax ID 31-1256417, Dar Al-Hijrah has been affiliated with the Muslim American Society (MAS) since 1999. MAS is a grassroots organization promoting religious, educational, and social reform.
