The Dar Al-Hijrah Funeral & Cemetery Fund (DAH-FCF)

The Dar Al-Hijrah Funeral & Cemetery Fund (DAH-FCF) was established to assist eligible community members in covering the costs associated with the burial of their loved ones.

This fund is restricted to serve only those individuals who are officially registered members of the DAH-FCF and who meet all membership criteria. It does not provide services to non-members or to those whose membership status is inactive or ineligible.

Membership Eligibility

To qualify for membership in the DAH-FCF, an individual must meet the following criteria:

1.1 Residency:

Must be a resident of the DMV area at the time of registration and throughout the duration of the membership.

  • If the member moves out of the DMV area, they will no longer be eligible for the service and will not receive a refund of any paid fees.


1.2 Membership Fees:

  • Each individual must pay:
    • $50.00 per month, or
    • $540.00 per year (non-refundable).
    • Additional family members (spouse, children, or parents) added under the same account will receive a 10% discount per person on the original rate (unless enrolled under the family rate).
  • Family Rate:
    • Families of four or more may enroll for a flat rate of $180.00 per month.
  • DAH Member Discount:
    Any active member of Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center is eligible for a 10% discount on the DAH-FCF membership fee.

Covered Services

The DAH-FCF will cover the following services for qualified members:

  • Funeral home and cemetery burial arrangements from local companies
  • Janazah prayer in DAH facility


Note:
The funeral home and cemetery are selected by the Dar Al-Hijrah administration, appointed by the Executive Director. The administration will choose the most affordable and reputable services and local facilities available in the region.

Conditions for Service Use

3.1 Cause of Death:

  • The cause of death must be natural. Death caused by suicide, overdose, homicide, violence, self-inflicted injury, criminal activity, or any suspicious or unnatural cause shall not qualify, unless DAH determines otherwise based on official documentation.
  • DAH reserves the right to request documentation to confirm the cause of death.


3.2 Service Limitation:

  • The fund covers only the designated services arranged through the approved funeral and cemetery providers.
  • No reimbursements or custom arrangements outside the approved service providers will be permitted.

Administration and Oversight

  • The DAH-FCF is administered by the Dar Al-Hijrah Administration, under the guidance of the Executive Director.
  • The administration shall maintain all membership records, payment history, and service logs in a secure and confidential manner.

Termination of Membership

Membership may be terminated due to:

    • Relocation outside of the DMV area
    • Non-payment of dues
    • Request for voluntary withdrawal (no refund)
    • Providing false information

Contact and Support

All inquiries and requests related to the Funeral & Cemetery Fund must be submitted to the DAH office by phone, email, or in person.

DAH Rights and Responsibilities

To ensure the sustainability and proper administration of the DAH-FCF, Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center reserves the following rights:

7.1 Right to Fundraise and Increase Fund Income:
DAH has the right to raise funds from the community and other lawful sources to increase the income of the DAH-FCF, ensuring its long-term sustainability and the ability to serve its members effectively.

7.2 Right to Invest and Manage the Fund Responsibly:
DAH reserves the right to invest the fund's income in low-risk, Sharia-compliant financial vehicles to preserve and responsibly grow the fund, with all investment decisions subject to review and oversight by the Executive Committee.

7.3 Right to Adjust Fees and Coverage Guidelines:
DAH retains the right to revise membership fees, service coverage, and fund policies as needed, based on periodic evaluations, rising costs, and community needs. Any such changes will be communicated in writing to all members in advance.

Requesting Funeral Services

In the event of the death of a registered DAH-FCF member, an official request must be submitted to initiate the funeral and burial services. The request must be sent to:

  • Dar Al-Hijrah Social Services Department,
  • Executive Director of Dar Al-Hijrah, and
  • Operations Manager of Dar Al-Hijrah.


The request should include the following information:

  • Full name of the deceased
  • Date and time of death
  • Relationship to the person submitting the request
  • Contact information of the requesting party
  • Copy of death certificate or medical report (if available)
  • Confirmation of DAH-FCF membership


Once the request is reviewed and approved, Dar Al-Hijrah Administration will coordinate with the approved funeral home and cemetery service providers to carry out the janazah and burial according to the policy.

Maximum Coverage and Family Responsibility Policy

To ensure fairness, prevent misuse of the fund, and maintain the long-term financial sustainability of the DAH-FCF, the following coverage limits shall apply:


9.1 Individual Coverage Limit

  • For each covered member, DAH-FCF will pay eligible funeral and cemetery expenses up to a maximum amount of $10,000.00.
  • This amount represents the maximum financial responsibility of DAH-FCF for one covered member. Any costs exceeding this amount shall be the responsibility of the family or the legally responsible party.


9.2 Family Membership Coverage Limit

  • For members enrolled under a family membership account, DAH-FCF will pay eligible funeral and cemetery expenses up to a maximum cumulative amount of $35,000.00 for all covered members listed under that family membership account.
  • Once the total amount paid by DAH-FCF under the family membership reaches $35,000.00, DAH-FCF shall have no further financial responsibility under that family account. Any additional costs shall be the responsibility of the family or the legally responsible party.


9.3 Approved Services Only

  • DAH-FCF coverage applies only to funeral and cemetery services arranged through the approved funeral home and cemetery providers selected or approved by Dar Al-Hijrah Administration.
  • DAH-FCF will not provide reimbursement for services arranged independently by the family, unless prior written approval is given by Dar Al-Hijrah Administration.


9.4 No Cash Benefit 

  • DAH-FCF does not provide cash payments to members, families, heirs, or beneficiaries. Payments, when approved, shall be made directly to the approved funeral home, cemetery, or service provider.


 Definition

  1. Natural Death means death resulting from illness, disease, age-related physical decline, or other internal medical causes, as confirmed by a death certificate, medical report, physician statement, or other official documentation acceptable to the DAH Foundation.For the purpose of DAH-FCF eligibility, Natural Death does not include death caused by suicide, drug overdose, homicide, violence, criminal activity, self-inflicted injury, or any suspicious or unnatural cause of death, unless DAH determines otherwise based on official documentation.
    DAH reserves the right to request supporting documentation before approving funeral and cemetery fund services.

  2. Membership means a DAH-FCF membership account that includes four or more eligible family members enrolled under one account and approved by Dar Al-Hijrah Foundation. Eligible family members may include the primary applicant, spouse, children, and parents, provided that each person is listed on the membership application, resides in the DMV area, meets the DAH-FCF eligibility requirements, and remains in good standing with all required payments. Family Membership applies only to the individuals officially listed and approved under the account. It does not automatically extend coverage to relatives or household members who are not registered members of DAH-FCF.
