The 2026 Annual Fundraising Banquet celebrates Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center’s enduring legacy and future growth, inspired by Allah’s words in Surah Ibrahim (14:24):
“A good word is like a good tree, whose roots are firmly fixed and whose branches reach the sky.”
Centered around the theme of a deeply rooted tree, the evening will highlight Dar Al-Hijrah’s lasting impact in faith, education, youth development, and community service while inviting attendees to invest in the next generation of growth. Through inspiring stories, community impact, guest speakers, and a unified identity, the banquet will honor the past, celebrate the present, and cultivate a stronger future for our community.
Meet the speakers
Dr. Altaf Hussein - Motivator
Altaf Husain is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and lives currently in Northern Virginia with his wife and children. He serves as Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at Howard University in Washington DC. His research interests include the mental health and integration of immigrant and refugee families, and especially Muslim adolescents, in the United States. He serves as founding Vice President of the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research, with Dr. Omar Suleiman, founding President of the National Association of Muslims in Social Work (NAMSW) and an advisory board member of the Peaceful Families Project - dedicated to the prevention of domestic violence. He's honored to support Dar al Hijrah, the first masjid community he joined after moving to VA in 1998.
Dr. Esam Omeish - DAH Board Member
Dr. Esam Omeish is a Libyan American surgeon based in the Washington, DC area since 1982. He has held significant leadership roles, including National President of the Muslim Students' Association (MSA) of the U.S. and Canada, and the Muslim American Society (MAS). Dr. Omeish has served the Muslim American community extensively, holding positions on the boards of the Islamic Center of Passaic County, Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center, Islamic Relief USA, and the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations.
Br Omar Benallal- EMCEE
Omar Benallal has been a part of the Dar Al-Hijrah community for the past three years and has served as its Community Organizer and Advocacy Coordinator over the last year. In this role, he works to strengthen community engagement, build partnerships across the DMV, and advance initiatives that serve and empower the Muslim community.
Professionally, Omar is a Product Manager at Capital One, where he works at the intersection of finance, technology, and strategy. He graduated from Duke University with degrees in Chemistry, History, and Middle Eastern Studies, and brings a diverse background spanning chemistry research, social services, and community organizing with Islamic nonprofits.
Outside of work and volunteering, Omar enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and pursuing his passion for Islamic studies, technology, and business.
Sh. Ahmed Mabrouk - Qari
Shaykh Ahmed Mabrouk is a graduate of Al-Azhar University in Egypt, holding a Bachelor's degree and Master's degrees in Islamic Studies and Social Justice. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Islamic Culture at Mishkah University. An internationally recognized Qur'an reciter, Shaykh Ahmed earned first place in the International Qur'an Competition in Saudi Arabia, second place in Egypt, and ranked among the top ten reciters in Bahrain. He also holds an Ijazah in the Ten Qira'at, the highest traditional certification in Qur'anic recitation and teaching. He currently serves as the Imam of the Muslim Unity Center in Michigan.
Imam Farhan Siddiqi - DAH Imam
Imam Farhan Siddiqi is the Resident Imam and Director of Religious Affairs at Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center. Raised mostly in Connecticut, he initially studied Biology at the University of Connecticut before shifting his focus to Islamic service and community work. He later studied at Umm al-Qura University in Makkah, earning a bachelor’s degree in Arabic Language and Islamic Studies, and is completing graduate work in Hadith while pursuing a PhD on Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim.
At Dar Al-Hijrah, Imam Farhan provides spiritual guidance, leads prayers and Jumuʿah khutbahs, and oversees religious education and programming for the community and youth. He is married and has five children.
