“Assalamu’alykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh!

The Muslim Link newspaper salutes the Dar Al Hijrah community — its leaders, volunteers, and supporters — on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.

Since we began covering Dar Al Hijrah in 1998 as part of our reporting on the Muslim community in the Greater Washington metropolitan area, we’ve seen Dar Al Hijrah operate with courage and dedication towards securing a bright future for Muslims in the region.

Just during the last few months, we printed a story about Dar Al Hijrah’s outreach to the Latino community, a report on Dar Al Hijrah’s novel and heartwarming decision to add a sign language interpreter to juma’ services, and a piece on how Dar Al Hijrah’s youth participated in a neighborhood clean-up.

We print the words, but the Dar Al Hijrah community is providing the action.

And we can’t forget that Dar Al Hijrah absorbed the brunt of the local negative media coverage in the wake of 9/11. We also can’t forget how they responded: by reaching out, not closing doors.

We remind the Dar Al Hijrah community to thank Allah for allowing it to reach the 25 year mark, growing and looking ahead. As for the Muslim Link, we look forward to fi lling our pages with stories of your successes for the next 25 years! Congratulations, and All Praises are Due to Allah!”
